My Rating: 4.5
BRIM CC is a really nice little Japanese café serving organic vegetable with their Japanese curry. There’s always long queues during lunch peak period and I often enjoy going to BRIM CC especially during winter as their meals are very hearty and tasty. At times I try to get there early to avoid the crowd, but it’s difficult as the café is so small, but regardless I prefer to dine in rather than take-away.
🔆LOCATION🔆
BRIM CC Japanese Café is situated on Little Collins Street between King and Spencer Street, very close to Southern Cross train station. The café is small with limited seating. Most people who dine-in literally just eat and go due to the queue of customers waiting for a seat. Often people decide to get take-away rather than wait for a seat. But as I have to travel a fair distance from my office, I prefer to dine-in.There’s a lot of customers that leave little messages and notes, mostly written on napkins and the staff has placed them on the wall which is a nice touch.
🔆SERVICE🔆
If you haven’t been to BRIM CC, you may possibly be overwhelmed with the list of different combination options they have on the menu. The Japanese staff are very friendly, helpful and very efficient. The queue to order does move quite quickly, so you don’t be put off. Once order, you get an order number. When your order is ready your order number will be called. If you like more soup options, its best to arrive earlier, as when they run out then your very limited in choices.
🔆MENU/PRICE🔆
I’ve been here a number of times and have mostly ordered the following options: Half Curry & Rice, Soup Set, $14.40(their soup options changes quite frequently and they will advise you what soup is available)Half Curry & Rice, Salad Set, $11.40(salad options include teriyaki chicken salad, tofu salad, potato mayo salad)Homemade Tokyo style curry & Rice, $9.90(organic vegetable stock with sweet vegetable curry)BRIM CC Bento Box, $12.90(includes 3 different Onigiri – triangular rice balls, grilled eggplants, marinated carrots, vegetable ball, and potato salad)
🔆VERDICT🔆
On my most recent visit I ordered the half curry & rice with soup set. I like this option because both servings of the soup, and the curry rice is really good portions and I’m always full afterwards. I love their purple rice and the curry is also very light and flavourful, sometimes I do think they have too much of the sauce though.
On days when I’m super hungry I go for the BRIM CC Bento Box, its decent serving and it definitely fills me right up in includes 3 different Onigiri – triangular rice balls, grilled eggplants, marinated carrots, vegetable ball, and potato salad. Sometimes I think its also good option to order to share with another person and then get a soup or curry rice to share. All in all BRIM CC is a really nice café to have home-cooked style organic Japanese food.
Our score 4.0 stars (avg of lots of visits). J picked up takeaway dinner from here on Wed 13th Nov. Quick & lovely service.
Vego curry ($9.80) – Same as usual, maybe a bit more carrot (nice). A lot of sauce, not a huge amount of veg, but very filling!
Chicken Katsu curry don ($12.80) – Similar to Veg curry but with onion & crumbed chicken (which is submerged in curry sauce, so not crunchy – but still tasty). Wouldn’t get again though!
Oct 2018. Have been getting takeaway from here for years. We usually have Chicken & tomato curry/Vego curry. Chicken is free range! Vego is basically chunky root vegetables – both dishes very filling. Accompanying mixed rice has good texture. Plenty of nice curry sauce, which can be a bit samey when you have these two together, but it is such comfort food! Service staff are ALWAYS nice & ordering in the afternoon (before catching the train nearby) means you avoid the lunch rush. Good value too!

Verdict: Consistent quality, Organic Veggie
BrimCC has one of the best Japanese curry in Melbourne. It's affordable, tasty, healthy and quick so it's always a nice lunch option.
All meal sets and combos have lots of veggies and really healthy. The veggies, both salad and cooked, are always really fresh and you can really taste the natural goodie flavours in it. It is really hard to find nowadays as well.
